Cloudy with a chance of beans

Sorry for taking so long to put up our first post. We’ve been so busy the first week, but are starting to finally feel like we fit in. We’ve been adhering to a very strict diet consisting entirely of baked beans, since it’s a regional dish. We’ve been told by reliable sources that if we want to fit in we need to do this. At any rate, the diet has made for some awkward moments on the subway. But seriously, we’re not the only ones dragging down the air quality down there. So, basically, you can get the sense that we’re pretty good at Boston already.
The going away party was really, really wonderful! Thanks to everyone who came. There’s really no way to express how grateful we are to be loved by the people we know.
The drive up wasn’t very difficult. We stayed at Stacy’s brother’s in eastern PA for a night. It’s a very welcoming stopping point on the drive betwixt our two cities. Michael, who daydreams too much to pay attention to signs on the highway, had the luxury of following Stacy the whole way.
Our apartment is rather small, with a small foyer, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. We decided we had to get rid of some things, which we’re still in the process of doing. The first night every room was cramped with our stuff. We had to make room on the floor to set up a mattress. By now we’ve finally sorted things out, and the place is livable. It’s starting to grow on us. There’s a rooftop deck with a great view too.
Michael’s mum and pa came to visit a few days after we arrived. We all got to check out Martha’s Vineyard and hang out at the Cleaveland House, where Mary Stoertz’s mom runs a bed and breakfast. A really relaxing place, to say the least. Very beautiful too, from the house to the beaches.
Since our current sublease is up at the end of August, we’ve been conducting an extensive apartment search. We’re still looking for that perfect place. There are so many neighborhoods to choose from, and pictures online always make things look nicer than they are in person.
Michael took the MTEL on Saturday. It’s the expensive test that people who want to teach in public schools in Massachusetts have to take. He has no idea what MTEL stands for, but is willing to bet there’s probably a “Massachusetts” in there somewhere, and maybe a “test” too. Let’s all just hope that he passed on the first try and that bringing a substantial amount of #2 pencils scores some points.
Well, Rudy is in her bed and we are about to leap from the couch to ours; no seriously, the bedroom/living room/dining room/office is all one room. We like to call it “cozy!,” a term borrowed from apartment listings on the world wide web. We just decided to call our room The Bedlivdinoff. It’s the new black.
Love, hugs, and kisses from us to all of you!

*Riiiiiiiip!* “Excuse me.”
“Stacy, that’s gross.” *Puh* “More beans?”
“Yes, please.”

  1. Um, I signed up to "follow" you. Since I am not very familiar with blogs I'm not really sure what that means. It does have a scary sounding stalker vibe, or maybe a cult thing. Anymeow, I promise that I am neither stalking nor building a shrine to you out of canned beans. :)
